Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) Counselling

What is the Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP)?

Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) is a BC government initiated program to help victims, immediate family members or witnesses whose lives have been affected by violent crimes. The government support includes financial assistance with services to help you heal and recover, including counselling services with a Registered Clinical Counsellor for the CVAP program.

When should Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) Counselling be considered?

CVAP counselling with a trained clinical counsellor is an effective way to heal when a victim, immediate family member or a witness of a violent crime has been impacted physically or emotionally as a result of that crime.

CVAP Resources available

There are resources such as counselling that can help. It’s important to note that the victim does not have to report the crime to the police. The victim’s safety is the main priority. Government funded and non-profit agencies are in place to help. For more details and resources, visit the BC Government website. Before proceeding and if you’re finding yourself in an unsafe environment, please know that the government website does have a quick exit

How the CVAP Counselling services work

The first step in getting the help you deserve is by filling out an application to get approved for the benefits. Get the Application form here.  As outlined on the BC Government website, please note that “in most cases, the application must be received within one year from the date the crime took place. You do not have to wait for charges to be laid or for the offender to be convicted before applying for benefits.” For most up to date details about the program and to complete the form, visit the BC Government website

Once you are approved for the CVAP counselling services, please contact us. We will be able to book your free 15 minute consultation to make sure you feel that we will be a great fit.

A trained Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) therapist understands that each victim is unique and that each crime is different and will have different impacts on those affected. As such, during CVAP Counselling with Liv Therapy Services, our trained counsellor will ensure that you feel that you are in a safe and familiar setting which as a result will help you feel comfortable to express yourself.
