Virtual EMDR Therapy Services
What is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR therapy is a specialized type of therapy that helps people who have experienced anxiety, depression, traumatic or difficult events in their life.
The basis of EMDR therapy is based on the idea that our brains might not process an upsetting experience in the same way as ordinary memories.
While the cause and experience of anxiety, PTSD, or depression varies, people suffering from it tend to overestimate a trigger, level of danger, or severity present and underestimate their ability to cope with it. One way this tendency can develop is from the way that past experiences were processed and are currently stored in the brain. When past distressing experiences remain unprocessed and are not integrated into adaptive beliefs, then we tend to have problems in our current functioning in the world (EMDRIA, 2024).

What can you expect during an EMDR therapy session?
During an EMDR therapy session, first and foremost as a trained professional, I will ensure that you feel that you are in a safe and supportive environment. We will work on emotional resourcing (regulation), which will help us to then bring a difficult memory or memories to mind.
While you focus on these memories, I will guide you through a process that involves using bilateral stimulation. This process allows your brain to reprocess your distressing thoughts, and create new neural pathways that reduce the vividness and emotions associated with the memories.
What can EMDR therapy achieve?
EMDR therapy aims at creating new neural pathways which help individuals address and revisit often painful and difficult memories by allowing you to view these memories in a new light. The purpose of EMDR is not to erase these memories and experiences. Rather, by allowing you to view these memories in a new way, EMDR can help patients feel less distressed and overwhelmed.
Through this guided process, you will gain control over these memories. We will also work together to help you develop coping strategies and positive beliefs to replace any negative thoughts associated with these memories.
When is EMDR helpful?
Many individuals with anxiety, depression, painful and traumatic life experiences find EMDR helpful in reducing the emotional distress caused by these difficult experiences. Many also confirm that EMDR therapy is a key factor in helping them move forward with their lives.
